Breeder Referral Selecting a Dog/Breeder When buying a dog, choose a responsible breeder who discussed the breed standard, gives a sales agreement and health guarantee and asks about your environment and compatibility with your chosen breed. All puppies and adults should have been vaccinated, wormed and socialized. Breeders should require spaying and neutering of all pets- they are being a responsible guardian of their breed. Breeders work hard on breeding out hereditary diseases such as eye problems and hip or skin diseases. Your veterinarian is also an excellent resource regarding a complete health care program. The Gig Harbor Kennel Club is committed to improve responsible dog ownership in this area. Remember, there are already far too many dogs that are put to death every day in animal shelters around the country. Please do not be guilty of adding to these distressingly large numbers. All dog owners must be aware of their responsibility to their neighbors, both those who live immediately around your residence and your neighbors in the broader sense of the community as a whole. Dogs, for all the pleasure they are, can be serious problems. This is particularly true of unwanted dogs. Your dog can be a major nuisance to your neighbors. All dog owners are responsible for making their dogs good neighbors. Remember, excessive barking can be annoying. Always keep your dog on a lead when exercising. Curb your dog. In urban and suburban area pick-up after your dog. Dog excretion is a major problem in many places. Forestall problems for yourself and all dog lovers by being a good neighbor. Great canine companions are available through Seattle Pure-Bred Dog Rescue (206) 654-1117. |
